Let’s get into the main topic: What would I do If I Started a YouTube channel in 2023?
If I Started a YouTube Channel in 2023? I’d Do This!
I split the topic into five chapters to make this article more straightforward. Let’s see each of them one by one.
1) Stick with Niche and Trending Videos
The first and foremost step you need to take when starting a YouTube channel in 2023 is, selecting the niche and sticking with that.
Would make random videos like talking about sports one day, the next day about movie reviews, and the other day about NASA’s project help you grow your channel?
The answer is NO!
The reason is that the YouTube algorithm thinks about how much you know about your specified niche. Then only it will promote your video to the right people at the right time.
Unless you or your channel is a public figure or News reader, this technique will not work.
For example, consider you’re opening a library. Generally, the library consists of books, tables, chairs to sit and read, a computer for identifying books, and a water bottle on each table.
The above is the best library setup for reading books silently and making the place pleasant. The reader thinks, “I feel good when I came here for at least 30 to 60 minutes a week”.
Instead, consider the same library with a canteen and smoking zone inside the library campus. Do you feel the library needs this, or Will the repeated readers come to your library?
The same concept applies to your YouTube channel. People might find that your channel relates to their current watching video niche. But if you’re making random stuff, when they see it, they will unsubscribe to your channel without a second thought.
So, kindly stick with a single topic when planning to start a YouTube channel in 2023.
Trending Topic
Once you finalize the channel niche, it’s time to find the trending videos in your niche.
Your niche is already crowded, and the big-best battle is already going on. How do you think you will get into competition and grow it?
The best technique is making trending videos related to your niche.
I have a channel that talks about WordPress plugins and Blogging tools. The channel mainly concerns technical things, and it didn’t pump up.
I altered my thoughts and applied the below technique. The result is BOOM! My views are getting higher for that video than ever, furthermore bringing me the best number of subscribers to enable monetization for my channel.
What I did was?
- I got into my Twitter account and found the trending topic the people were discussing today.
- I found the hashtag called #AIovertakesHuman; the hashtag is trending with 50K+ thousands of tweets.
- And I made a video of how AI overtakes human work in the Blogging field video and published it within 3 hours. Also, I tweeted the video link on Twitter with the mentioned hashtag.
- I could see a good number of views I received from Twitter, but in a couple of days, the video received a boom in views directly from YouTube organic search.
In a nutshell, the videos need some initial push to grab the audience’s attention.
Another way to find the trending topic is using the Google Trends Graph.
2) Time Allotment
- Are you a part-time YouTuber?
- Need to learn how to manage your time and make videos?
If you’re a full-time YouTuber, you don’t need to worry much about it; you have enough time to make and optimize the videos. (I think you can skip and move on to the next chapter).
But for a part-time YouTuber, managing time on a newly started channel is a difficult phase.
I usually go to the office from 9 AM to 6 PM when I start my YouTube channel. All I did the work on my channel was morning from 5:30 AM to 8:00 AM and evening from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
I spent around 4 hours consistently on my channel for long days. The 4 hours per day looked small, but I gave all my efforts without procrastination.
Procrastination is one of the devil zones for any creator. Make yourself busy and manage the time allotment of your work.
You may have less than 4 hours per day or more than that. But the time you spend on your channel should be conscious and effective without mind-shuffling.
Over time, you will see better results and pay-offs on your channel for your work.
Here I’m leaving some tips I followed to manage my time on my channel with the 9 to 6 JOB. If I start a YouTube channel now, I will follow the below points definitely.
Google Spread Sheet:
Create a Google Spread Sheet and manage all the work you need to do and you did. For example, create a separate tab for Investments, Video Topics, Content Analysis, Video Editing Process, Templates, Required Tools, etc. Moreover, this process helps to manage and build a better business.
AI Help:
As part-time YouTubers, we need a few things to take care of AI to keep space for our time on other work. AI is improving content in today’s world. So, utilizing AI helps to generate video topics, titles, etc.
Build Regular System:
As you know, better planning makes the project half-success. You need more time daily to give productive content. So, thinking about what to do and planning daily filter out a lot of your time. To overcome that, I build a regular system like,
- Monday: I will do a video script for 2 videos.
- On Tuesday: Will generate titles and thumbnails.
- From Wednesday to Friday: Will make two videos.
- And finally, on Saturday: Did the editing process.
The above is just an example for your reference. For your time and convenience, you can build your regular system.
Note: Sometimes, the system might bore you. So, replace the system every 3 months, and if it suits you, keep going.
3) Competition Analyzer
If I start a YouTube channel now, I will concentrate on the competition analysis after selecting my channel niche.
As mentioned before, the selected niche already has big competitors. But we must regularly focus on our competitor channels to discover what they are doing and missing.
To clarify this topic better, I will add one best example.
Consider you’re going to open an Ice-cream shop, and the opposite store is also an Ice-cream shop with 5+ years in the same place.
Compared to your new shop, the existing one have creditability and contacts even though you and your competitors provide the same taste and brand of Ice-Creams.
In such a case, there is a high chance that you will lose your investments, time, and hope. But to stand alone with your competitor, you need an ADD-ON.
The Add-on is nothing but analyzing the competitor’s Ice-cream shop, figuring out what he needs to include, and injecting that into your shop.
Over a while, people will see a better environment in your shop than your competitor.
Likewise, on YouTube, always watch your competitor’s channel and try to figure out the missing piece. Adding value against your competitor’s channel makes the content looks more engageable.
4) Better Content Videos
I hope you understand the importance of Niche, Time Allotment, and Competitor Analysis from the above chapters. With these, it leads us to the necessary topic of making better content videos.
If I start a YouTube channel today, I will not hesitate to upload my first video. The best part of YouTubing is learning how to do YouTubing over a period of time.
When I see my channel’s initial videos, it looks like cringe. I laugh nowadays after seeing those. But it pushes me to make further videos those days.
You will make better content videos only when you get a hands-on-experience. However, there are a lot of factors you need to consider while creating better content. We will figure out the overview of each one by one.
Story Telling
To convey your thoughts and ideas to your viewers, be a better storytelling person. There are no courses to be a better storyteller. All you need is experience and acting like a viewer.
The ultimate goal of your storytelling should be easy to understand, even for a layman.
Better Filming
Filming a video is easy when you do the proper setup. Here, I’m not mean you to buy the expensive setup like Camera, Mic, Lens, Lights, etc.
Even with your mobile cam, you can do better filming. To know more about it, read the article on how to do YouTube Video filming article.
SEO Optimization
SEO is a part of a healthy YouTube channel. When I start a YouTube channel now, I will consider and optimize my channel SEO (Search Engine Optimization) from day ONE.
In YouTube, SEO is part of the following places,
- Adding keywords in the video title, description, and tags.
- Adding more related keywords in the video description.
- Placing optimized keyword-related thumbnails in the video.
- Have to start the titles with keywords if possible.

5) Consistency
Consider you’ve started a YouTube channel, making videos, but the growth is not expected as you’ve seen.
What’s your thought? Give-UP, right? I recommend you don’t do this once you start a channel.
Generally, this kind of mind-hunting demotivation questions like, “what will happen when no one sees my videos, when someone puts nasty comments, what I need to do when someone is joking about my content, etc”.
I faced these questions when I started, and I hope every creator will meet this. But one thing you need to keep in mind: The longer you work with YouTube, the better you will be positioned.
Yes, I’m talking about consistency. Be consistent with your channels, like scheduling videos, shorts, and other community activities.
Consistency is the key to success door in any business.
The above are the specialties I will do If I start a YouTube channel now in 2023.
